Since the start of the Klezmer revival, singers and musicians have repeatedly turned to Hassidic music for inspiration; artists and bands like Brave Old World, the Klezmatics or Andy Statman drew heavily from this repertoire and made it known to a wider public. Yet aside from wedding music and a few popular holiday tunes, the music of the Hassidic world itself has remained relatively unknown. The Heart and the Wellspring, an Israeli ensemble led by Naor Carmi and the renowned clarinetist Chilik Frank, offers a fantastic example of how this situation has changed in recent years. The band creates original arrangements of traditional nigunim that preserve the force and spirituality of the original melodies, combining them into an exhilarating program that has won over numerous audiences – not least the jury of the Amsterdam Jewish Music Competition, which awarded them first prize.

Line up:
Chilik Frank (IL) - Clarinet
Naor Carmi (IL) – Double Bass
Ariel Alaev (IL) - Accordion
Asaf Zamir  (IL) – Percussion
