Evita Wiecki (PL/D; Yiddish language)

Evita was born in Warsaw and has been teaching Yiddish for 20 years; since 2009, she has been a lecturer in Yiddish at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich.
In addition to teaching the language, Evita offers her students diverse inroads into the world of Yiddish culture and literature. In her teaching, she focuses on giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge practically: her latest teaching projects included the reading and evaluation of a DP (displaced persons) newspaper published near Munich, and the translation into German of Joseph Opatoshu’s novel “A Day in Regensburg” with a student group in Regensburg.

She is particularly interested in Yiddish education; the history of Yiddish school textbooks was the subject of her PhD thesis.
